"Javier Vazquez's grip on a rotation spot seemingly grew more tenuous Monday courtesy of the first-place Philadelphia Phillies.
Two games ahead of the second-place Marlins, the Phillies immediately began working to extend that cushion. Jimmy Rollins hit his 36th career leadoff homer and Vazquez allowed eight more hits and five more runs over 4 1/3 innings in the 6-4 Phillies win at Sun Life Stadium.
Vazquez (2-3), who has allowed at least one first-inning run in each of his seven starts, saw his earned run average balloon to 6.88. Among qualifying NL starters, only Cubs' right-hander Ryan Dempster has been worse (7.20)."
