Cliff Lee had a strong start and Chase Utley continued to swing a hot bat as the Phillies beat the Chicago Cubs for a second straight game, 2-0, at chilly Wrigley Field Saturday afternoon.

The Phillies are 3-2 after five games.

They go for a series sweep on Sunday.

Starting pitching report
Lee pitched seven shutout innings to run his record to 2-0. The left-hander allowed 10 hits, but pitched well with men on base. He did not walk a batter and struck out six.

Cubs right-hander Jeff Samardzija was good. He allowed six hits and two runs over seven innings, walked three (one intentionally) and struck out eight. One of the hits Samardzija allowed was a solo homer to Utley. Samardzija ended his day by striking out the side in the seventh.

Bullpen report
Jake Diekman pitched for the fourth time in five games and recorded a scoreless eighth to preserve a two-run lead.

Three days after blowing a two-run lead in the ninth inning, costing the Phils a win at Texas, Jonathan Papelbon returned to the mound in a save situation. He retired all three batters for his first save.

Papelbon’s best fastball was 91 mph.
