"Several controversial plays have made Phoenix captain Shane Doan play the part of villain against the Ducks this season, but Keith Yandle might make a good understudy.
With fewer than 30 seconds left in the second period Saturday, Yandle, the Coyotes' leading scorer, took two pushes in his back from Corey Perry in the Phoenix crease. Yandle then turned and took a two-handed swing to Perry's right hand.
Perry immediately dropped his stick and headed to the bench.
"It's a tough one to take," Perry said. "It was a good slash right on the wrist. He got me between elbow pad and glove. It's bone on stick."
Perry came out for the third period and ended up playing nearly 17 minutes.
The ugliness carried into the third period when Bobby Ryan clipped Yandle near the boards. Ryan received an interference penalty and Matt Beleskey fought Vernon Fiddler in the ensuing retribution.
Ducks coach Randy Carlyle said his team was affected by Yandle's slash and suggested the NHL's disciplinarian staff might review it.
"We got angry when Yandle slashed Corey Perry," Carlyle said. "It was a pretty vicious slash, kind of a baseball swing at his hand. I'm sure they'll be looking at that. That got people a little upset.""
