Everton boss Roberto Martinez is not currently thinking about a permanent deal for Gareth Barry.

The midfielder joined the Toffees on a season-long loan on transfer deadline day from Manchester City and has been one of the outstanding performers at Goodison Park this season.

But while it appears the 32–year-old is surplus to Manuel Pellegrini’s requirements at the Etihad Stadium Martinez insists the time is not right to talk about Barry moving to Merseyside on a permanent basis.

‘From the first day that he arrived he has been an incredible influence with the youngsters and an influence on the standards we have in training’ said the Everton boss.

‘Just with that alone you realise what a figure we have at the club. He is someone who breathes the game and brings the experience he has had from his career.
