Justin Houston's imminent contract extension is the Kansas City Chiefs' main priority this spring, but it may still be a long and arduous process.

Houston led the NFL with 22 sacks last season, and became the anchor of the Chiefs' defense, capturing Pro Bowl and first-team All-Pro honors along the way.

Kansas City has limited cap space entering the 2015 season, and placed a $13.1 million non-exclusive franchise tag on the 26-year-old on March 2.

Chiefs general manager John Dorsey is prepared to take his time in reaching an agreeable deal with the superstar outside linebacker.
