New Orleans Pelicans center DeMarcus Cousins will miss Friday's game against the Houston Rockets because of left knee soreness and a rib contusion, but coach Alvin Gentry said the injuries likely aren't that serious and the big man will be evaluated again on Saturday.

Cousins has been dealing with knee soreness for a while and his rib injury came towards the end of the Pelicans' loss to the Miami Heat on Wednesday. He underwent an MRI for his knee on Friday and it came back negative, according to the team.

Gentry said that Cousins would probably be playing on Friday if he was only dealing with the rib injury, but since his knee was bothering him too, the team decided to play it safe.
