"Adrian Gonzalez may have won the battle in his first-ever appearance against Jake Peavy, his former teammate with the Padres. But Peavy, the former Cy Young Award winner, wound up winning the war in helping the White Sox hand the Red Sox a 7-3 loss last night at Fenway Park.
Gonzalez got the better of Peavy with two out in the bottom of the first when he deposited a 2-2 offering from the White Sox starter into the visitors' bullpen in right field. It helped the Red Sox pull within 2-1.
"I've been telling everyone in the world about Adrian,'' said Peavy of Gonzalez's hitting prowess. "I take full responsibility; [catcher] A.J. [Pierzynski] and I kinda got mixed up.''"
