With tomorrow's NBA trade deadline approaching, the Celtics are becoming more familiar with the likelihood they will remain largely on their own.

Considering the marketplace and the club's refusal to mess with the future, no one here is expecting significant reinforcements to be helicoptered in to re-engage the Celtics' dual enemies — more talented opponents and age.

In bolder moments, they will even say they don't mind. But one would think it has to be difficult for Paul Pierce [stats], Ray Allen and Kevin Garnett to face the realization that their last time together will almost certainly not be glorious. There is still basketball left in all three, but the odds of them standing together after this season are less than minimal.
