"Steve Smith was carted off the field on Tuesday after injuring his finger during practice with the Carolina Panthers, the Gaston Gazette reported, citing a team source.
The source said Smith's hand was cut, but there are no broken bones.
The Gazette reported the injury occurred late in Carolina's three-hour padded practice. Smith was shaken up by a collision earlier in the practice, but he later returned before sustaining the finger injury.
"I'm not sure if it was dislocated or sprained or whatever," Panthers coach Ron Rivera said after practice. "But they wanted to check it out and may get an x-ray. They just told me they had to take him up (to the locker room) so I'm assuming it might involve an x-ray.""
