"Panthers receiver Steve Smith is sidelined with a finger injury he sustained Tuesday morning while catching a pass, coach Ron Rivera said.

Smith needed stitches after splitting the webbing between the middle and ring fingers on his left hand. Rivera did not give a timetable for Smith's return.

"Once he's comfortable with it and starts the healing process, he'll get an opportunity to get back out," Rivera said."
