The Panthers stormed back from a 3-1 deficit after the first period to score five unanswered goals including three in the third period to down the Predators 6-3 in the first game of a day-night doubleheader at a near-empty BB&T Center Monday.

Defenseman Erik Gudbranson who has just two goals in his first two seasons including none last year scored twice as did oft-injured forward Scottie Upshall.

“With the work I put in skating this summer I feel more confident being up on the play and being able to get back if it’s turned over’’ Gudbranson said. “I worked on my hands quite a bit this summer.’’

Veteran winger Brad Boyes whose on a PTO furthered his chances of earning a contract with the winning goal at 12:44 of the third.

Boyes 31 was set up beautifully by Garrett Wilson and then Drew Shore who spoon-fed him for an easy tap-in.
