"Defensive end Charles Johnson expects to see his first exhibition action Friday in Miami since he signed a $72 million contract shortly after the lockout was lifted.

Johnson did not play in the exhibition opener after a minor shoulder injury last week.

"But it's all good. I'm definitely playing Friday," he said Tuesday.

Johnson was the first free agent the Panthers signed after the lockout ended and he immediately became one of the highest-paid players at his position in the league. It also led to questions about what he is doing with his newfound wealth.

Not much, Johnson said when he was asked about his spending habits Tuesday. Then he admitted he is doing some spending.

"First thing I'm going to do is I'm going to get my momma something, get her a house," he said. "Other than that I don't know. I'm expecting a little boy so I'm probably not going to do anything but get some stuff for him.""
