"While several teammates, including defensive end Charles Johnson, linebacker Jon Beason and running back DeAngelo Williams have received big contracts in the past week, center Ryan Kalil has not.

Kalil had the franchise tag placed on him this season, which means he's operating on a one-year contract. However, Panthers officials have indicated they plan to talk with Kalil - a two-time Pro Bowler - about an extension soon.

"I've said before I really do like this place," Kalil said. "If it works out that I get to stay here, that's great. I know my family loves the city of Charlotte and all of the Carolinas. But if it doesn't work, it doesn't. As of right now, though, I'm focused on this season. I have one year on the contract and that's what I'll do - make sure to give the Panthers everything I have."

Kalil said he understands his contract extension hasn't been the team's first priority since the lockout ended last week."
