"The Padres spent close to $22 ½ million Tuesday, reaching 2012 contract agreements with nine of their 11 arbitration eligible players.

The only arbitration eligible players who haven't reached agreement are starting pitchers Clayton Richard and Dustin Moseley -- both of whom are coming off surgery that ended their 2011 seasons.

Agreeing to terms Tuesday were outfielders Carlos Quentin and Will Venable, catchers Nick Hundley and John Baker, right-handed starting pitchers Tim Stauffer and Edinson Volquez, third baseman Chase Headley and relief pitchers Luke Gregerson and Joe Thatcher."
