Padres' Mike Adams ready for trade or no trade

"One way or another, Mike Adams thinks he can handle whatever his future brings.

If the Padres' setup man gets traded, as is the hot rumor these days, Adams will wind up playing for a contending team in a pennant race. Or, if Padres closer Heath Bell gets dealt to a contender and Adams stays, he would be the top candidate to take over the ninth-inning duties.

With that in mind, Adams said he's more concerned with how his wife, Shelly, would handle a trade before the July 31 nonwaiver trade deadline arrives.

Adams pitched a scoreless inning Sunday to lower his ERA to 1.26. He is 3-1 with 42 strikeouts and only nine walks in 43 innings.

"I think the main person it affects is probably my wife because of the uncertainty," Adams said. "And if we do have to leave, she's the one who has to do all the work as far as packing up the family and moving alone."

Adams, who turns 33 later this month, admits that he's not immune to trade talk. This is the first time in his career that Adams has been mentioned in rumors. The Philadelphia Phillies, Texas Rangers, St. Louis Cardinals and New York Yankees are among the interested parties, based on media reports."
