Pacman' back on field, has no room for error

"Adam "Pacman" Jones' last chance in the NFL began with little fanfare Monday.

The suspended cornerback quietly rejoined the resurgent Dallas Cowboys (7-4) in practice for Thursday's game against Seattle (3-8). While there's been no word from the league on whether another slip would result in a lifetime ban, coach Wade Phillips indicated Jones is indeed down to his last strike.

"I don't know how the guy couldn't know how serious it is," Phillips said. "... I mean the guy might not ever play again, as far as what I know. I don't know what the commissioner will do, but if something else comes up, I'm thinking the guy might not play football again. I would think he knows that.

"All the pressure is on him, really, to do the right thing."

Jones wasn't in the locker room when it was open to the media for 45 minutes.

A team spokesman confirmed Jones was on the field during a walkthrough in the afternoon.

The NFL said Friday in a release that commissioner Roger Goodell reinstated Jones after consulting with the clinical experts who oversaw his 30-day stint in an alcohol rehab facility.

Under terms of the reinstatement, Jones can't play until Dec. 7 at Pittsburgh, meaning the suspension will have cost him six games.

Goodell suspended Jones indefinitely Oct. 14, a week after his alcohol-fueled altercation with a team-employed bodyguard at a Dallas hotel. The incident came nearly two months after Goodell reinstated Jones following a 17-month suspension that caused him to miss the 2007 season.

The Cowboys were 4-2 when Jones left the team. If they beat the Seahawks, they will have gone 4-2 without him.

Phillips said he's unsure of Jones' role. Jones started four games while Terence Newman was sidelined with a groin injury and was the team leader in pass breakups when he was suspended."
