"After further investigation, Green Bay Packers outside linebacker Erik Walden was charged with misdemeanor disorderly conduct after a fight with his girlfriend.
Walden pleaded not guilty and will return to Brown County Circuit Court on Dec.?27. If convicted, Walden faces up to 90 days in jail and a $1,000 fine. He remains free on signature bond.
The main question in this Nov.?25 dispute has been whether Walden was defending himself. His girlfriend required four stitches in her forehead and injured her thumb. According to the complaint, she originally told police that Walden pushed her first. The complaint adds that once she learned Walden would be arrested, the girlfriend changed her story and said she instigated the altercation.
Over the past week, District Attorney John Zakowski's office has spoken with people at St. Vincent Hospital and obtained a copy of the 911 tape.
"She had gone to the police department," Zakowski said. "She actually called 911 and wanted to report a domestic violence incident .?.?. What we have at this point is apparently it was a pushing incident where he pushed her and that's how she became injured. Whether he intended for her to become injured is circumspect. That's why at this point I think we can prove disorderly conduct.""
