Packers RB Ryan Grant carries offense against Chicago Bears

"Two years ago at Soldier Field, Ryan Grant ripped off a 66-yard touchdown run to give the Green Bay Packers an early lead, but it would be their only score in what turned out to be a 35-7 shellacking at the hands of the Chicago Bears.

Another long touchdown run by Grant wouldn't go for naught.

On the Packers' first offensive play of Sunday's game, Grant took a handoff, ran an inside zone play that was blocked to perfection and was gone. His 62-yard touchdown — his longest run of the season by 25 yards — gave the visiting team the upper hand early in their 21-14 victory, their first since 2006 in this stadium.

"That was a big run for us to start the game like that," Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers said. "On the road, in a tough environment, in a rivalry game, for him to go the distance and give us an early seven-point lead."

As exhilarating as Grant's opening run was, the Packers would need his second touchdown — a 1-yarder with 12:39 left — to win the game.

Grant rushed for 137 yards — his third 100-yard game of the season and his second-highest single-game total of the season — on 20 carries. In the process, he surpassed 1,000 yards (1,068) for the second straight season.

Granted, he did it against a Bears defense that was a shell of what it was in Week 1, when Grant managed just 61 yards on 16 carries. Without two of their three opening-day starting linebackers (Brian Urlacher and Pisa Tinoisamoa), the Bears had slipped to 25th in the NFL against the run coming into Sunday's game.

The Packers' running game had been inconsistent all season despite coming in ranked 13th in the league in rushing yards per game (117.1) and 14th in rushing average (4.3).

Nevertheless, the Packers showed they could grind out a win when their passing game wasn't clicking. On a day when Rodgers threw for a season-low 180 yards, Grant averaged a season-high 6.9 yards per carry."
