"The San Francisco 49ers signed running back Brian Westbrook on Monday, several months after the Green Bay Packers kicked the tires and decided not to invest.
Westbrook was waived Feb. 23 by the Philadelphia Eagles after eight game-breaking seasons. His one-year contract in San Francisco reportedly was worth $1.25 million, with the chance to double it through incentives.
The Packers investigated the possibility of adding Westbrook in the weeks before the draft in April but ultimately said no.
"The whole issue was his injuries," said Reggie McKenzie, the Packers' director of football operations. "After researching it we just pulled back.""
