Packers linebacker has chance to get charge dropped

"If Green Bay Packers linebacker Erik Walden serves 50 hours of community service and continues with counseling he initiated, a misdemeanor disorderly conduct-domestic abuse charge will be dropped.

In Brown County court Friday, Walden pleaded no contest to the charge, which stemmed from his arrest Nov. 25 after an altercation with his live-in girlfriend. He was given deferred judgment that requires him to complete the community service over the next year and stay out of trouble.

He had pleaded not guilty to the charge and was set to go to trial next week.

Walden's girlfriend suffered minor injuries after she said Walden became physical with her during an argument. She later changed her story, saying she initiated the contact and he was defending himself.

"He's not convicted of anything," said Walden's Green Bay attorney, Steve Richards. "I think the position of his girlfriend was she wanted this and it's basically giving him an opportunity to dismiss the charges. It's a chance to prove himself.""
