"The Indiana Pacers put an end to the Charlotte Bobcats' six-game winning streak Tuesday, but it came at the expense of leading-scorer Danny Granger.
Granger missed the final 56 seconds of a 99-94 victory after taking an inadvertent elbow on his cheek while battling for a rebound.
As play was going on at the other end of the court, Granger slowly made his way back upcourt grabbing his groin area.
He signaled to athletic trainer Josh Corbeil that he needed to be taken out of the game after play had been stopped by a foul. Granger staggered toward to the bench before stumbling to the floor right before getting there.
The team's medical staff quickly surrounded Granger. A few minutes later, a wobby Granger was helped to the locker room by Josh McRoberts and assistant trainer Carl Eaton.
"Everything was moving so fast that I didn't see what happened with Danny," said Pacers swingman Dahntay Jones, who was in the scrum in the paint battling for the rebound. "Nobody really knows. I guess he went for the rebound and I guess he got hit somewhere."
Granger was still being evaluated late Tuesday and a team spokesman said they will have more information today. He will miss tonight's game at Cleveland.
"We have a tall order against Cleveland without Danny, and our guys will compete and see if we can put ourselves in the position to win a game on the road," Pacers coach Jim O'Brien said.
Granger finished with a game-high 26 points.
The Pacers held off a late Charlotte surge to ensure their third straight home victory. The win, combined with a Washington loss, moved the Pacers a half-game ahead of the Wizards in NBA draft lottery positioning.
The Pacers had what appeared to be a safe 15-point lead with about six minutes left when the Bobcats' pressure defense started to give them problems.
An Earl Watson turnover, which resulted in a Tyrus Thomas dunk on the other end, got the Bobcats to within six with about a minute left.
The Pacers committed four of their 14 turnovers in the final five minutes. Ex-Pacer Stephen Jackson, who was booed throughout the game, scored 20 points for the Bobcats."
