Perhaps Pablo Sandoval was too anxious to extend his 20-game hitting streak when it ended in an 0-for-4 Saturday night. He made first-pitch outs in three of his four at-bats and saw six pitches. Overall, Sandoval is trending in the right direction.

According to Fangraphs, Sandoval has swung at 55.2 percent of pitches in 2012, 2.6 percentage points lower than his career low for a full season. His 3.64 pitches per plate appearance is a shade higher than his career-most 3.50. Although those numbers might make nouveau-stat folks shriek, Sandoval is a good enough bad-ball hitter to do more with less patience than most.
