Senators defenseman Jared Cowen said his hit on the Red Wings’ Pavel Datsyuk was an accident.

That’s also what the NHL deemed of the hit, which came in a 4-2 victory for the Senators over the Red Wings in Detroit on Nov. 23. Cowen’s elbow to Datsyuk’s chin drew no penalty. Cowen wasn’t suspended.

Datsyuk is expected to miss his fourth consecutive game on Sunday with concussion-like symptoms.

“I feel bad he got hurt,” Cowen said today after practice at Canadian Tire Centre. “I didn’t mean to (injure him). Just one of those quick plays where you just want to get a bump on before he got back to the net.
