Senators are going to be getting an 'A' for effort from coach Paul MacLean.

With assistant captain Jason Spezza sidelined indefinitely, his letter is going to be passed around the dressing room. On Friday, Erik Karlsson wore it. Against the Habs? MacLean said he wasn't sure.

"It would be easy just to give it to Chris Neil or Sergei Gonchar and have it on them, but I think it's an opportunity for us to share the leadership value of the team amongst the players," said MacLean. "I think as we move forward we'll have more and more people wear that A. We're going to rotate it from player to player. Leadership isn't just about the three guys that wear the letters. It just isn't their responsibility to be the leaders. Everybody is expected to be a leader here, to prepare themselves and play the game properly, to do things right, in the Senator way. We're going to try to acknowledge those who are doing it more consistently than others by having them wear that A."
