Prized outfielder Oscar Taveras who has missed more than two months’ worth of minor-league games because of a high ankle sprain is about ready to resume duty.

But Cardinals general manager John Mozeliak said Taveras would play initially in the Gulf Coast League or even Florida State League both of which have teams in Jupiter Fla.

Taveras 21 will be on a rehabilitation assignment before rejoining his Class AAA Memphis team where he played 46 games this season and hit .306.

Taveras is ranked No. 1 on MLB.com's Top 100 prospects list.

Asked whether or not Taveras will join the Cardinals in September Mozeliak said “Answering that question isn’t going to do anybody any good right now. We’re not going to bring up an injured player.

"I’ll say this: ‘If healthy yes' " he will be in St. Louis in September.
