Arizona assistant Damon Stoudamire might be the leading candidate to fill the head coaching vacancy at Oregon State, but he’ll have to beat out another great point guard to get the job.

OSU will speak to both Stoudamire and Minnesota Timberwolves assistant Terry Porter before deciding on the person who will replace Craig Robinson as Beavers coach, a source close to the search told Sporting News. Former UCLA and Pitt coach Ben Howland withdrew his name from consideration late Monday.

Stoudamire has been an assistant at Arizona under Sean Miller for one season after spending two years on the Memphis Tigers’ bench under Josh Pastner. Following a 13-year NBA playing career that ended in 2008, Stoudamire spent one year as director of player development at Rice and two on the Memphis Grizzlies’ staff.
