Remember, it's called spring training.

The Tigers lost to the Braves on Wednesday because of a pitch that defines the difference between the regular season and spring training.

With runners on second and third and two outs in the first inning, Tigers starter Rick Porcello threw Braves designated hitter Juan Francisco a 1-0 fastball.

Three-run home run en route to a 5-3 Braves victory.

Prince Fielder countered with a mammoth two-run shot and Don Kelly added a solo home run, but Francisco's poke was a decisive step in the right direction for the Braves.

"Porcello made, I hope, a selection he would not make during the season," Tigers manager Jim Leyland said. "He threw the ball very well, but he won't make that pitch with first base open, and a left-handed hitter up there, during the season."

Then why did he throw it?

"He's just building up," Leyland said.

Was he spoken to about it?

"It's already been handled," Leyland said.
