Brandon Phillips wanted to be in the lineup Saturday.

"I thought I'd be playing," he said. "I woke up with a smile on my face."

Reds manager Dusty Baker, however, decided to give Phillips another day.

"He knows what's best," Phillips said. "It's what's best for me."

Phillips has missed five starts with a strained left hamstring. He pinch-hit Friday night and struck out. That's his only appearance since the injury.

"It sucks," he said. "Seeing how the team is playing and being on the bench."

Baker generally gives players another day after they say they're ready.

"I told him in the beginning that it probably would be (Sunday)," Baker said.

Phillips admitted that the hamstring still bothers him.

"I'm not 100 percent," he said. "But I feel like I can go out and perform. I can score from first on a double, score from second on a single."
