Ryan Whitney is starting to look like his old self.

The Edmonton Oilers defenceman is going through his best stretch of the season, picking up another point Tuesday.

It’s unlikely Whitney will find himself a healthy scratch again playing the way he is.

“Whitney has certainly added to the offence again,” said Oilers head coach Ralph Krueger. “He’s been the offensive influence we need, he’s been very good at directing the power play and we’re pleased with his game so far.”

Whitney’s assist on Sam Gagner’s first-period goal gave the veteran blue-liner five points in his last seven games. It’s the type of contribution the Oilers were looking to get out of Whitney from the start.
