"David Wright is standing in front of his locker, holding his cap, and fiddling with the brim. His voice is soft, and his eyes settle on the hat. On most days, he chooses to reveal nothing about his inner life; this is not one of those days.
This is a rare afternoon when Wright decides to peel back the curtain, and reveal a restless 28-year-old, hours after a bad game, alone in a hotel room, noodling around on the computer, or half-watching a movie. This is a day when he tells you what he does not like about himself.
"You can kind of beat yourself up too much, and I think I'm in that category," Wright says before Saturday's 1-0 loss to Atlanta, after hitting two home runs the night before. That burst of fun did not seem to provide lasting cheer."
