NY Jets running back Thomas Jones plays down bruised knee, says he is '100 percent'

"Thomas Jones quickly batted down questions about his physical health Friday. In fact, the Jets running back said he was baffled earlier this week when coach Rex Ryan was asked if Jones' bruised right knee would require offseason surgery.

"I don't even know where this stuff came from," Jones said Friday. "I banged my knee on the turf. We had about seven guys that got nicked up from the turf. I banged my knee on the turf at the Meadowlands, it was so cold. So it was just a bruise; it wasn't a big deal."

Jones' production did dip in the wild-card win against the Bengals - he picked up 34 yards on 15 carries - one week after he banged his knee in the Jets' regular-season finale against the Bengals.

But he said the knee brace he wore that week was "just for comfort" and added that he currently feels "100 percent."

That might be a slightly generous estimate, as Jones has been on the injury report since the Week 17 win, but his point was that he's full go for the Jets' divisional playoff game at San Diego Sunday.

Ryan made clear on Wednesday, when Jones sat out practice, that he could have worked fully that day and just had a bruise on the outside of a knee that looked "like a 16-year-old's." Jones was a full participant Thursday and Friday and is listed as probable for the Chargers game.

"It hasn't taken any toll on me at all," Jones said of his fifth straight 1,000-yard season, at age 31. "I work out harder than anyone in the league. I pride myself on that. So it hasn't taken a toll on me. I watch film; I'm in the ice tub. I've been consistent because I do the same things over and over. I've been blessed to be healthy, but I take care of my body. I think everyone around here can tell you that.""
