Nuggets' Harrington posts big Games off the bench

"Carmelo Anthony, of course, leads the Nuggets in scoring . . . but, quick - who's No. 2?

It's Al Harrington, the gunslinger off the bench, who has played well the past couple of nights.

"He gives us that extra threat that we're looking for offensively," said Anthony, who averages 24.1 points per game, while Harrington averages 14.7. "We try to spread the court with him. He's trying to find his way in the offense. I think everyone is. We have a lot of new guys."

The 6-foot-9 forward scored more than a point-a- minute against New York on Tuesday (22 in 21 minutes), and at Portland on Thursday, he helped keep Denver afloat with 17 points on 6-for-11 shooting, including three 3-pointers.

He

plays 27.9 minutes per game and has showcased some good man-to-man defense against top opponents. (When the Knicks were in town, Karl made a point to say this to the New York reporters, expecting to leave the reporter flabbergasted, after watching Harrington for a couple of seasons).

"Happy to stay here."

During an appearance Friday at an area high school Carmelo Anthony's wife, La La Vazquez, insisted she is not the driving force behind the rampant speculation that her husband will end up in New York. Vazquez told The Associated Press that she would be happy anywhere Anthony wants to play.

"Wherever he's going to feel comfortable is where I want him to be," she said. "If that's here in Denver, then we are happy to stay here in Denver."

Does Anthony want to stay in Denver?

"Yeah. Of course," Anthony said. "Right now, my options are open. That's where I am right now with it.""
