"The death of his father kept Corey Brewer away for three games. His return was a welcome sight for the Nuggets on Saturday night as the 6-foot-9 forward brought much-needed energy to the skidding team.
Brewer scored 19 points and proved a catalyst along with Ty Lawson as the Nuggets ended their five-game losing streak with a 113-109 victory over the Pacers.
"I always play for my dad. Ever since my dad's been sick, since I was in college, I always dedicated my play to him," Brewer said. "I know he's looking down on me.
"It was a tough week with my dad, then the Nuggets were losing. Watching those games were tough, but I'm happy to be back. Happy to get a win."
Denver weathered a hot start by the home team as Indiana hit 14 of its first 17 shots and built an early double-figure lead.
An increase in defensive intensity spearheaded by Brewer, coupled with Indiana cooling from the field, allowed the Nuggets back into the game.
After the win, Brewer's teammates were quick to credit the victory to their grieving compatriot.
"His energy was amazing," Arron Afflalo said. "I think he was the reason that we won tonight. We fed off him all night long.""
