"Olli Jokinen believes he strayed from his strengths while aligned with star Jarome Iginla earlier this season in Calgary. It's something he's been trying to avoid repeating while successfully centering the Rangers' top line in recent games.
"Three games now we've played (together), and I'm starting to get a little feeling with the guys," Jokinen said yesterday, referring to linemates Marian Gaborik and Vinny Prospal. "Obviously they have chemistry because they've been playing on the same line all year. As a new guy coming in, I just have to try to fit in."
Jokinen, a four-time 30-goal scorer, has netted only 13 this season, including two in 13 games for the Rangers since a trade with the Flames on Feb. 2. But the Finnish center mostly had anchored other units with the Blueshirts until John Tortorella replaced Erik Christensen with Jokinen last week, including back-to-back wins over Atlanta and Philadelphia.
"I've always been a shooter and a guy who likes to take shots. In Calgary I tried to be too much of a passer, playing with Iggy (Iginla). Once you start doing that, it's going to affect your own play," Jokinen said. "For me, I just have to try to play my game."
