The Texas Rangers will wait only so long on free-agent outfielder Josh Hamilton, team president Nolan Ryan said on Wednesday.

When Hamilton went into free agency, it was with the understanding he would identify the market before resuming talks with the Rangers. The club will not allow itself to be paralyzed as Hamilton shops his services, Ryan said. If an appealing non-Hamilton alternative arises, the Rangers will act.

"With Josh, you don't know where that's going to go," Ryan said. "I don't think you can sit around and say `We have to see what happens with Josh.' We have to be out there seeing what opportunities there to improve to ballclub.

"If you just sit back and wait, you might miss an opportunity that you might regret. …. You have to decide what's in your best interest."
