"Vikings quarterback Brett Favre is actually ending the will-he-or-won't-he retirement drama about seven months earlier than usual.
Favre, 41, has officially filed his retirement papers with the league, according to NFL spokesman Greg Aiello.
Fox Sports' Alex Marvez first reported the news.
Favre repeatedly said during the season that he would retire for good when it was finished. Favre retired twice previously, from the Green Bay Packers and then from the New York Jets, only to return.
Vikings coach Leslie Frazier, when the word "interim" was officially removed from his title, said he could not see any scenario in which the team would reach out again to Favre, whose 19-interception performance this season was marred by injuries and scandal.
The franchise plans to rebuild at quarterback after hoping Favre would take them to the Super Bowl the past two seasons. "
