There were no five-star recruits this year, or at least so far, but that doesn't seem to bother Jim Harbaugh.

Michigan received signed National Letters of Intent from 16 players on Wednesday, the first day of the early signing period, and expects to get three more come February.

The common thread among the group, at least in Harbaugh's eyes?

"Those are guys that really want to be at Michigan and appreciate what Michigan has to offer," Harbaugh told reporters Wednesday night at Schembechler Hall.

"They can understand it, both as a football powerhouse and an academic powerhouse that provides both of those things."

So far, the makeup of Michigan's signed class is pretty even. There are nine four-star players, and seven three-star players.

Eight on offense. Eight on defense.
