So rookie camp standout Nik Jensen is taking it on the chin in the early preseason.

Dominating at times in the Penticton Young Stars tournament Jensen has been unable thus far to stand out among the men.

He’s been more like dim background music so far this preseason.

He has been tentative and ineffective. He’s played 25:08 in two games and is still without a shot on net.

“Up and down” John Tortorella said when asked to describe his game.

“I’ve heard a lot of good things about him (a favourite Torts line). He’s done some good things and there’s been some struggles.”

“Just like any kid goes through.”

He did play some 3:35 on the power play in that first game but in both he started on a fourth line.

First it was with Brendan Gaunce and Pascal Pelletier against San Jose. Then it was Bo Horvat and Colin Stuart against the Oilers.
