Newcastle United will have to pay in excess of £10million to land winger target Jacob Murphy, with Norwich City in no mood to sell one of their prized assets on the cheap.

Murphy – who was one of the standout players in Norwich’s Championship season and performed well for England’s under-21 side in their European Championship campaign – fancies a move to the North East but United and the Canaries are not close on a valuation yet.

Newcastle ’s initial talks with the Carrow Road outfit centred around an £8million bid but Norwich – having sold Jonny Howson to Middlesbrough and Graham Dorrans to Rangers – are not in desperate need to sell.
