The Sheriff's Office was expected to issue a recommendation on the Pablo Sandoval case to the District Attorney's Office this week but new information received Wednesday will delay the report, deputy April Skalland said.

Sandoval, the 25-year-old third San Francisco Giants third baseman, was accused last month of sexually assaulting a 21-year-old Santa Cruz County woman. The woman told authorities she met Sandoval in downtown Santa Cruz and went with him and a small group of other people to the Seascape Resort in Aptos on June 1. She reported she had been assaulted around 4:30 a.m. at the resort, deputies said.

Sandoval and his attorney, Eric Geffon, met with authorities in Santa Cruz later that morning. Geffon has said the sexual encounter was consensual. Sandoval has not been arrested or charged.
