Both clubs have been linked with a move for the in-form Costa at the end of the season, but Atletico's president Enrique Cerezo is adamant he will not be forced to sell.

Indeed, Cerezo believes that the club is in a different place this season than they were when they sold Radamel Falcao to Monaco last season.

Chelsea were thought to hold the upper hand in the race for Costa, and it was thought that the Blues could send on-loan Belgian goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois to Madrid in part-exchange.

But Cerezo is not thinking about such a move, and believes the Brazilian-born forward can be persuaded to stay.

He said: "I do not think Diego Costa will leave us at the end of the coming year.

"Unquestionably, we do not want to sell him or use him as a bargaining chip for another player.
