Jason Kidd said before Monday’s game that Kevin Garnett was available to play against Toronto. But moments before the start, the team announced he was not fit to take the floor, and he missed his sixth straight game because of back spasms.

“He tightened up so we pulled the plug on him,” Kidd said of why Garnett sat out the Nets 101-97 win, their sixth in the past seven games. “We’ll see how he feels tomorrow.”

Garnett could then be seen leaving the arena at halftime, walking gingerly to his Range Rover as he left.

Mason Plumlee started again in Garnett’s place and said it wasn’t hard to make the mental transition from a bench player to a starter.
