"Brook Lopez, the linchpin to the Nets' season — and perhaps their future — is scheduled to undergo surgery Friday morning to repair a fracture of the fifth metatarsal bone in his right foot.

The Nets gave no timetable on how long Lopez will be out, but recovery with this type of injury can take six to 10 weeks.

News of the injury came in muted form — a three-sentence statement released by the team just before the start of practice this morning — but sent the Nets scrambling to find a stand-in.
