Nelson Cruz and the Rangers have a little less than three weeks to hammer out a one-year deal ahead of Cruz's February 17 arbitration hearing. It seems that both sides would prefer to bridge the gap between the $7.5 million figure Cruz asked for and the $5.5 million the Rangers offered, rather than leaving it to an arbiter to decide.

"We are exchanging numbers, negotiating for a year and leaving the doors open for a multi-year contract," Cruz told Enrique Rojas of the Spanish-language site ESPN Deportes Los Angeles.
