The Nationals have identified starting pitcher Mark Buehrle as their top free agent choice, and team officials, led by General Manager Mike Rizzo, will visit with the veteran left-hander and his representatives from CAA Sports today at Buehrle's home in St. Louis, according to multiple people with knowledge.

With eight or nine options to choose from already in their rotation, the Nationals hope to stabilize the top of their youthful staff with a reliable veteran, and it's likely no free agent available would slide into that role better than Buehrle. The Nationals previously met with Buehrle's representatives from CAA at the general managers meetings last week in Milwaukee.
