"This weekend's Tigers-Red Sox series features two of the premiere first basemen in the sport -- Miguel Cabrera and Adrian Gonzalez.

The series also puts a spotlight on incredibly tight bond between the two sluggers.

Foxsports.com baseball writer (and former Freepster) Jon Paul Morosi recently brought to light just how close the two superstars, once prized prospects in the Marlins organization, have become over the years, starting with a story of how when Cabrera was called up from Class A ball in 2003.

At that time, Cabrera, 19, didn't have a place to stay in South Florida. But Gonzalez not only let Cabrera stay at his house, he helped pack up Cabrera's belongings and shipped them to the Miami area.

Cabrera attended Gonzalez's wedding in San Diego. Gonzalez attended Cabrera's wedding in Maracay, Venezuela. When they were young, their conversations were a 50/50 split between baseball and non-baseball subjects. Now, Gonzalez said, it's 80/20 in favor of the non-baseball stuff.

That is probably just as well. If they talked about work too much, the conversation might wander toward a question that neither would be comfortable answering: Who is the best first baseman in the American League?
