Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho has revealed that ex-Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson knew from last season that he planned on returning to Stamford Bridge at the start of this campaign.

Mourinho's comments follow after questions have been asked why the former Inter Milan and Real Madrid boss didn't take the Old Trafford hotseat after Ferguson announced his retirement last May.

Ferguson's successor David Moyes has had a dismal campaign at present, with the current Premier League champions sitting seventh in the table.

In contrast, Mourinho has enjoyed a successful start to his second spell at Chelsea with the west London side the current league leaders and a mammoth 18 points ahead of the Red Devils.
