"Santana Moss, the Redskins' top wide receiver, could face disciplinary action for being linked with Canadian doctor Anthony Galea, who is charged with smuggling and distributing human growth hormone, stirring more doubt about the Redskins' receiving corps as Coach Mike Shanahan prepares for his first season in Washington.
The Redskins released veteran wideout Antwaan Randle El, who quickly re-signed with the Pittsburgh Steelers. Devin Thomas and Malcolm Kelly, high picks in the 2008 draft, have shown flashes of ability but are still working to become consistent performers. The Redskins in April signed veteran wideouts Joey Galloway and Bobby Wade and drafted former UCLA standout Terrence Austin.
"Devin Thomas has been hurt through most of the minicamps and OTAs [organized team activities]," Mike Shanahan said Wednesday. "It's good to get Devin back and watch him in these OTAs because I didn't get a chance to watch him except for the first day in our minicamp. Malcolm, it's like all of the receivers, learning the system, getting the chance to show their skills. It's going to be an interesting question here over the next two months, three months. We got a number of wide receivers that are competing for a position. I like what I have seen thus far.""
