Five-star Gary Trent Jr., one of the top shooting guards in the nation in the class of 2017, on Thursday night made a verbal commitment to Duke.

Trent Jr. (6-5, 200) picked the Blue Devils over his other finalists, Michigan State and UCLA.

Trent Jr., who plays for Prolific Prep in Napa, California, is ranked the No. 2 shooting guard in the nation and the No. 12 player overall for 2017 by

Trent Jr., the son of former NBA player Gary Trent, made his announcement on ESPNU.

During his recruitment, Trent Jr. wrote a blog for USA Today.

On Thursday night, immediately after Trent Jr. made his announcement, USA Today published a new blog entry by Trent Jr., and it included his reasons for picking Duke and not MSU or UCLA.
