Real Madrid striker Alvaro Morata has thanked Jose Mourinho for instilling a new-found work ethic into his game.

The Chelsea boss left the Santiago Bernabeu at the end of the season but only after leaving his mark on the Spain Under-21 star who excelled in los Blancos' 2-0 win over Malaga on Saturday.

Speaking to Marca Morata said: “I want to thank Jose Mourinho who drilled it into my head that if you don’t work and toil you’re less likely to play.”

Morata who was handed his first team debut by Mourinho back in 2011 and was afforded a rare start against Malaga having impressed as a substitute in his side' opening league fixtures this season.
